The ultimate in defect detection

Magnet wireSurface defects are a significant quality issue for magnet wire producers. Defects during wire production cost money in scrap and rework, and customer returns can damage the manufacturer's reputation. Existing solutions are inadequate for today's high production speeds and in some cases can even damage good wire.

To address this challenge, Beta LaserMike has launched a leading edge wire flaw detection system called FlawScan™. With 360° detection around the wire and the ability to detect flaws as short as 100 microns long, FlawScan is the ultimate in defect detection. Developed in conjunction with the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in Australia, the system employs a patented optical measurement technique which is non-contact and can detect flaws at line speeds of up to 2000 metres per minute. The surface of the wire is analysed using the latest in digital signal processing. Optical information on the wire condition is sampled over one million times per second and high speed filtering techniques are used to identify product defects. This ensures that surface faults are captured accurately and consistently, while ignoring changing environmental conditions such as ambient light and temperature.
