Servomex keeps coffee tasting great
Everyone loves the aroma of freshly-roasted coffee. However, coffee beans quickly lose their freshness and aroma if they are exposed to oxygen, so once roasted, the beans are immediately packaged and sealed in carbon dioxide, sometimes with other gases present too. One US coffee producer is using a Servomex portable gas analyser to help ensure its coffee is consistently good wherever it is served. A number of packs are sampled per thousand and the oxygen concentration checked using a probe consisting of a hypodermic needle. The needle tip pierces the pack and a small volume of gas is extracted by the analyser's internal pump. By ensuring that the atmosphere in the packaging is correct, the beans remain in their freshly-roasted condition.
