Spotlight on China

Demand for precision instrumentation and controls in China is increasing, with around 5% of sales in the first half of 2002 coming from customers in this important and rapidly growing market for Spectris. Spectris companies have established a comprehensive and effective 'point-of-sale' presence in the country with direct offices in Shenyang, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Beijing and of course Hong Kong. Additionally HBM has a wholly owned manufacturing facility in Suzhou where load cells are produced for the weighing industry. This facility, set up in 1997, continues to expand to meet increasing production capacities and the next phase of investment has commenced, with the new manufacturing facility expected to come on-stream by mid 2003.

In recognition of the strategic importance of this market, Spectris is holding a reception for Chinese customers in Shanghai during the annual Presidents Meeting in December. The evening will give customers the opportunity to meet the Spectris and operating company management teams and learn more about the exciting technologies that Spectris operating companies can offer to China in its development and modernisation programme. Spectris products are key to enabling China's manufacturing industry to meet or exceed international standards of design and manufacture and achieve competitive advantage.
