Fusion develops 3-D UV curing solution

UVCAD screenshotFusion UV Systems has developed a unique proprietary software package, UVCAD, that ensures accurate placing of its lamp systems when they are used in complex UV curing processes on large 3-D objects. Previously, determining the exact position of UV lamps on a dynamic assembly line was done manually and could take several weeks. With the new software, the optimum lamp positions for correct irradiation of the part can be determined in hours rather than weeks, greatly reducing development costs and time. Originally targeted at the automotive industry, UVCAD is also suitable for industrial manufacturers of large or complex 3-D objects requiring a coated surface. The 3-D modelling software simulates the curing using a digital model of the part or product, an accurate optical model of the Fusion UV lamp, optical and chemical properties of the coating and the physical constraints of the processing area. The resulting solution identifies the minimum number of lamps needed to cure the part, the time required to cure the surface and the positions, orientations, and power levels of each lamp at each point in time. This information can then be transferred to the user's manufacturing line, enabling the user to quickly deploy an accurate UV curing process in the target environment, thus significantly speeding up product development times.
