Ircon’s thermal imaging system used in laser welding
Laser welding offers significant benefits over traditional techniques. Joining two (or more) pieces of material together using a laser beam means that there is no vibration of the parts. This is particularly beneficial when electronic components such as small printed circuit boards or accelerometers are already integrated into the component plastic parts. Unnecessary vibration may result in product reliability or quality issues. Time, the power of the laser and the pressure applied between the two adjoining parts are critical factors in the laser welding of parts: hot or cold spots on the joint may affect the quality or even result in an unsealed assembly. Ircon's thermal imaging system continuously monitors the temperature of the entire area of the parts being welded to avoid product defects. If over- or under-heating of the weld area occurs, an alarm is triggered to notify the operator that an unacceptable condition exists.
