Observing sound at Brüel & Kjær

Annoyance from noise has become a key factor in the quality of life, with the result that more stringent regulations and directives are being introduced to minimise the impact of noise on the environment. To address the increased need for noise measurement, Brüel & Kjær has launched a state-of-the-art sound level meter and sound analyzer. A hand-held instrument, the 2260 Observer™ can be used to carry out all the measurements and analyses typically required for assessing environmental noise and noise in the work place. For monitoring in places which are particularly difficult to access, the analyzer can be left and the modem dial-up facility used to remotely access the results. The user can define how often the analyzer is to be “woken up” to make and store the required measurement data. A number of software packages are available to enable the results to be examined and analysed, including, for example, the facility for the operator to record and replay sound events to aid post-processing and the ability to edit noise levels on screen to give “what if” situations.
