Servomex analyser improves efficiency in the power industry

Spain's largest power stationSpain's largest power station, operated by Endesa at As Pontes, has found that Servomex's 2700 analyzer improves efficiency and reduces emissions. Coal-fired power stations require an excess of oxygen above the chemically ideal quantity in order to achieve complete combustion. Insufficient oxygen results in more carbon monoxide being produced, however, it is more common that too much oxygen is supplied, causing a significant reduction in combustion. Use of the Servomex analyzer has enabled the level of excess oxygen to be reduced, resulting in an increase in combustion efficiency and, therefore, profitability, as well as a reduction in carbon monoxide emissions.

Following the success of the first Servomex analyzer, Endesa has ordered a further four units to monitor post-combustion levels of oxygen and carbon monoxide, enabling the combustion process to be continuously fine-tuned.
