Measurements balloon at Beta LaserMike
Beta LaserMike has launched a system for the measurement of balloon catheters for the medical industry. Balloon-carrying catheters are used, for example, to widen or unblock a partly closed or obstructed passage or tube such as a coronary artery to restore blood flow. Beta LaserMike's BalloonPro system measures and profiles the high pressure balloons under a variety of conditions. The balloons are pressurised with water and submerged in a temperature controlled tank where they are measured with a non-contact laser micrometer. Tests can be designed to evaluate the effects of any combination of pressure, temperature, location and axial position. This allows industry standard tests to be carried out such as balloon fatigue, minimum burst strength and leak tests. Balloon loading and unloading is quick and easy using a pneumatically controlled fixture to raise the balloon into and out of the tank. The PC-based graphical user interface allows for easy design of comprehensive compliance test procedures that can be recalled and run at the click of a button.
