NDC's new infrared gauge speeds up film measurement

NDC Infrared Engineering has launched a new high performance film gauge based on infrared technology. Using patented high-speed detection technology, the gauge can scan up to 20 inches per second, some ten times faster than competitive gauges, whilst providing exceptionally accurate, high resolution profiles. Most conventional infrared gauges have a beam spot size of one inch or greater but NDC's gauge can measure streaks as narrow as 0.1 inches, making it more sensitive to small changes in thickness across the film. The gauge is ideal for measuring packaging materials such as polypropylene and polyester. Infrared technology enables the gauge to measure not only the thickness of a composite film but also the thickness of the individual components that make up the film. Accurate measurement of the film reduces the use of raw materials, leading to significant cost savings for the customer.
